Biography

Seyyed Mohammad Masoumi completed his primary education between 1971 and 1976 at Sadr School, followed by middle school studies from 1976 to 1979 at Kamkar School. He then completed his secondary education at Hakim Nezami High School in Qom between 1979 and 1984. In February 1984, he was admitted to Shiraz University, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Botany in 1988. He subsequently pursued a Master’s degree in Botany, specializing in Plant Systematics and Vegetation, from 1990 to 1992 at the Department of Biology, University of Tehran, under the supervision of the late Professor Ahmad Ghahreman. Continuing his academic career, from 2001 to 2006 he undertook doctoral studies in Botany (Plant Systematics) with a specialization in Palynology at the Department of Morphology and Systematics of Higher Plants, Moscow State University (Lomonosov), Russia. Under the supervision of students of Academician Armen Takhtajan—Professor Nona and Professor Alexander Melikyan—he successfully earned his PhD in Palynology. Dr. Masoumi began his professional career in botanical education and research in 1991. From 1991 to 1992, he served as a part-time lecturer at Payame Noor University (Delijan and Golpayegan campuses). From 1992 to 1993, he worked full-time as the curator of the Qom Natural Resources Herbarium.

Between 1993 and 2000, he served as a full-time lecturer in Botany in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding at Razi University, Kermanshah, while also managing the university herbarium. During this period, he additionally taught General Botany and Plant Systematics (I & II), including laboratory courses, at Payame Noor University (Islamabad-e Gharb), Qasr-e Shirin Higher Education Center, and Mahidasht Agricultural Training Center.

Following completion of his PhD, from 2006 to 2009 he served as a full-time Assistant Professor of Botany in the Departments of Plant Production and Natural Resources at Razi University, Kermanshah. He also held full-time responsibility for the Razi University Herbarium for fifteen years. Concurrently, from 2006 to 2020, he taught Plant Systematics (I & II) with laboratory courses as a part-time lecturer at Payame Noor University (Islamabad-e Gharb), where he also established and developed a herbarium.

From 2010 to 2022, he served as an Assistant Professor, and from 2023 to 2025 as an Associate Professor of Botany and Head of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, Razi University, Kermanshah.
